During spring 2017 the idea arose to take up the old craft again.
A first idea was to manufacture a standard ceramic object with cylindrical shape, its outer surface lending itself as a canvas for different decor systems. Mixes of different salts and oxides were to be applied to the naked shard, in a first try remaining unglazed. This first approach was soon abandoned and a sgraffito line featuring a signature rape design on a matt black glaze was persued. Following my mantra to keep it simple I decided to skip the buisquet firing, thus applying the glaze with a brush on the green shard.
MUG - stoneware, outside matt black glaze applide with a brush on the unfired object. Barley signature motive on front side applied in sgraffito technique. Transparent shiny glaze on the inside. Marked on bottom with "AR" stamp. The mug is holding a half liter.
Inspired by the work of a local potter I built a potter's wheel when by chance I came across a book which presented an instruction on how it could be done. And of course I read "A Potter's Book" by Bernard Leach.
